Birthday Season

Happy May Day!
I had been counting down the last few days of April in great anticipation for the 1st day of May to be here.  What a beautiful day today was to begin May!  But, the good news is that it's only the beginning.  There's a full month of beautiful days ahead, too.

May, how do I love thee?  Let me count the ways...
May Day
Cinco de Mayo
Mother's Day
Last Day of School
Memorial Day
and...
31 glorious days of my Birthday Season.

Yes, my Birthday Season.  I've adopted this concept from a friend of mine, where in their family each of them has a birthday season during the month of their birthday.  Any little thing can contribute to the celebration of one's birthday during the season...it makes for a great month!
Think, with me, of all the things that get seasons.  Weather.  Deer. Turkeys.  Salmon.  Tornadoes.  Hurricanes.  Holidays.  Why not birthdays?  Why not celebrate in all sorts of ways the month of your birth?  Am I not just as deserving of a season as a turkey?  a tornado?
I thought so, too.
During your birthday month...or whoever's is next...go ahead and declare a month long celebration.  Do family things together in honor of the birthday season upon you.  Make favorite meals.  Play favorite games.  Spend a little extra snuggle time together.  Watch a favorite movie.  (Decorate your blog for you birthday!) :) Go on bike rides.  Plant flowers.  And, as it is sensible, enjoy a little something only money can buy.
Spoil others with love and attention because you can...it's time to celebrate your life!

it's not about me

I reminded myself of this recently. It's not about me at all, this wellness journey I am on to a healhier version of myself. Not at all. Never has been, really. It is about the people who invest in me. My husband. My boys. My family. My friends. They all share themselves with me. When I am not at my best, I'm not giving them a good return for their investment. They get the tired looks, the lack of energy excuses, and the wimpy "maybe next time" cop outs. I have come to realize that those that take precious time to invest in me deserve better from me. I need to adhere to the direction given on any flight I've ever been on that goes something like this: make sure your own oxygen mask is properly secured before helping others. If I don't take care of myself first, my ability to care for others effectively diminishes quickly. My choosing clean eating, drinking enough water, and exercising on a daily basis is how I put on my mask first. Am I perfect at meetin...

home of the Braves

As a metro Atlanta resident, it seems almost a requirement to go to a Braves game to continue living here.  I grew up watching baseball and loving the game...and have been to a few games in St. Louis, Cincinnati, Detroit...and of course, Atlanta.  The problem for me going to a Braves game is purely mental...having been a Mets and Cardinals fan for years, I just haven't the love necessary for the Braves to call me a fan. However, as with many things in life that I haven't particularly enjoyed over the years, my boys make it so worth my time and heart.  I go watch the Braves because I love my boys...and my boys and I love baseball.  Well, they love what they know of the game...still in training, but getting the hang of the lingo and SOP's of a baseball fan rather well. There are a few things that remain the same from stadium to stadium..."the wave" (Braves' attendees do not always get into this, which is very di...
