the other side of the postcard

"Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you your heart’s desires."  Psalm 37:4
Sunday morning, as I listened to a young woman share about her time in Figi this summer, one thing she said stuck with me especially well.  She was speaking of her time spent in places off the beaten path of tourists in Figi...the other side of the postcard, she described...where one finds the not so glamorous, the "real life" happenings, the ones in need of encouragement, the lost and lonely.
The inland tour...the path less traveled.
That's where ministry takes shape in Figi...in Alaska...at home...or anywhere.
In the places that will not make the "Top 10" list on travel websites is where God loves to shine His light and share His love.
Where rock bottom is well known and down and out is the norm, Jesus offers new life.
Like the back of the postcard is blank, a person's life is blank awaiting God's hand to bring life and meaning to one's days.
He writes the script.
It is for our good and His glory.
What is God writing out for my life? for others' lives?
Am I demanding the postcard picture life or am I willing to go to the lesser known place(s) He desires?

"May He give you what your heart desires and fulfill your whole purpose."  Psalm 20:4

Before this, in Sunday School, we were discussing what "home" is for us; what defines "home" for us.  Several people gave appropriate answers, describing our home as being a place where we feel safe...a place where our bed is...a place where we are with family.  In my heart, my definition of home has always been where God calls me to be at the time.  Wherever my feet are walking is where I am to call home.  It may be for a week, maybe years...time doesn't matter but my heart condition does.  He longs for me to desire His desires for me.
Only when I am where He wants me, following wholeheartedly, will the blank postcard be filled with His script for my life.

  1. Such a powerful message. I find that when I come across scripture- it is usually quite profound for what I am going through at the time. I know it's him speaking directly to me & I get great comfort from that.

  2. Wonderful post...what a blessing it is to know that God is hand is in our lives and that our paths will be directed and that we only have to yield to Him.

After having moved from birth until now to about 4 countries, 9 states and numerous locations (apartments, trailers, houses, rentals, in with family, townhouses, etc...), I am very thankful for the shelters and thankful that home is where our heart is...and our heart is with family and with the Lord).

    Blessings & Aloha!

home of the Braves

As a metro Atlanta resident, it seems almost a requirement to go to a Braves game to continue living here.  I grew up watching baseball and loving the game...and have been to a few games in St. Louis, Cincinnati, Detroit...and of course, Atlanta.  The problem for me going to a Braves game is purely mental...having been a Mets and Cardinals fan for years, I just haven't the love necessary for the Braves to call me a fan. However, as with many things in life that I haven't particularly enjoyed over the years, my boys make it so worth my time and heart.  I go watch the Braves because I love my boys...and my boys and I love baseball.  Well, they love what they know of the game...still in training, but getting the hang of the lingo and SOP's of a baseball fan rather well. There are a few things that remain the same from stadium to stadium..."the wave" (Braves' attendees do not always get into this, which is very di...

it's not about me

I reminded myself of this recently. It's not about me at all, this wellness journey I am on to a healhier version of myself. Not at all. Never has been, really. It is about the people who invest in me. My husband. My boys. My family. My friends. They all share themselves with me. When I am not at my best, I'm not giving them a good return for their investment. They get the tired looks, the lack of energy excuses, and the wimpy "maybe next time" cop outs. I have come to realize that those that take precious time to invest in me deserve better from me. I need to adhere to the direction given on any flight I've ever been on that goes something like this: make sure your own oxygen mask is properly secured before helping others. If I don't take care of myself first, my ability to care for others effectively diminishes quickly. My choosing clean eating, drinking enough water, and exercising on a daily basis is how I put on my mask first. Am I perfect at meetin...
