sweet & salty simplicity

A few years ago a friend of mine introduced me to these yummy treats that are crazy simple to make.  I don't have an offical name for them, but they are a pretzel turtle so to speak.  You only need three ingredients:  waffle pretzels, Rolo candies, and pecan halves.
Unwrapping the Rolos are the most time consuming part of the candy making process, so do it first.                     Find whole waffle pretzels (so they look nice) and lay them on a baking sheet.  If you desire to use parchment paper, please do so. (I forgot for this batch).Place a Rolo on each pretzel.
Now, you place the baking sheet in a low temperature oven (250 degrees) and you don't even have to preheat it if you don't want to.
Be careful the pretzels slide very easily!
You'll know the Rolos are soft when they get really shiny and just start to show signs of losing their shape.  You can test one before taking the baking sheet out of the oven if you like to see if they are squishable.                       Once softened, you take them out and place a pecan half on top of the Rolo and press it downward just enough for the Rolo candy goodness to come up around its sides a little.
If you like sweet and salty, but don't like pecans you can top it with another waffle pretzel.
Once they cool completely you can store them in a tightly sealed container...they won't last long enough to worry about a shelf life. :)

  3. YUM! Love Rolos and salty-sweet combos. Think these will be in our future. Have you made bark with saltine crackers? That's super easy as well and soooo yummy (uh, I mean addicting). ;)

  5. Thanks Janet...those look easy and yummy. I don't eat chocolate or nuts...and I wonder if it would work to melt a Kraft Caramel in between the pretzels?

  8. We make these throughout the year, but they are definitely made as one of our favorites for Christmas for us at home, to ship out to family, and pass out to neighbors with the other Christmas treats.

I actually cut the Rolos in half, so that I make them go farther and make more :o) I am one to try to stretch the dollar :o) It takes a little more time, is a little more "messy", but it does make more of these yummies and it still tastes great :o)

    Blessings & Aloha!

#TransformationTuesday

"But God has surely listened and has heard my prayer."  Psalm 66:19 As one who has struggled with weight all of my life, seeing the ups and downs in jean sizes became my reality.  I would lose some pounds only to face a stressor in life and see them return and bring friends along for the ride.  I spent years believing lies, yet secretly hoping for a better reality.  Lies that I am not capable of overcoming my sweet tooth and that I am just not the workout type, topped the list.  I have never really lacked self esteem or self confidence; I know who I am.  However, I know from personal experience, others define me by what they first see.  Having been a plus-size lady for years, I was treated differently, intentionally or not, when I dropped pounds. My health journey to where I am today began back in 2010. It is amazing that things do not happen accidentally, even if they seem to in the beginning. Actually, as the pieces of my story have come together, this story begins w
